GWA Women in STEM Fellowship Review
Global Women Asia’s 2024 Women-in-STEM Fellows convened from around the world for an exclusive four-day leadership program in the San Francisco Bay Area.
They visited leading tech companies such as Ripple, Google, LinkedIn, and Plug and Play Tech Center to understand the latest trends of crypto currency, the future of semiconductor design, and the venture capital ecosystem in Silicon Valley.
Hosted at Nixon Peabody LLP, the firm’s David Kaufman kicked off the program with a discussion about the gender gap in STEM. Grace Hopper Co-Founder Telle Whitney, Wendi X. Zhang of Egon Zehnder, and Radhika Rangarajan of Women in Big Data shared their perspectives from Silicon Valley. The fellows also had the opportunity to hear from Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Friedland on communications and personal branding.
At LinkedIn, Sharat Raghavan, who is also on faculty at the UC Berkeley Hass School of Business, shared how technology companies leverage rich data for making strategic corporate decisions, as well as how entrepreneurs use data to define their business models.
Hosted at Matthews Asia, the fellows listened to insights from China business experts, including Andy Rothman, Rui Ma, Mark Atkeson, Ker Gibbs, and Eric Wong. Together they all engaged in a timely conversation about post-election US-China relations and the implications on technology, competition, and business investments across the world.
Jonathan Friedland and 2024 GWA Fellows
The fellows and GWA mentors including Ker Gibbs, Marsha Vande Berg, Karen Raghavan, Erika Louie, Auria Styles, Eyee Hsu, and Eric Wong participated in a mentoring walk at the Presidio Tunnel Tops.
Concluding the fellowship was GWA’s Women in STEM Groundbreakers Award Ceremony, where fellows networked with investors, women student entrepreneurs from Stanford Student Enterprises and Stanford Women in Business, as well as technology leaders in Silicon Valley.
Global Women Asia’s 2024 Women-In-STEM Fellowship is our second cohort. In two years, we have invested in 25 young global leaders with Asian perspectives in Sustainability and STEM. With GWA’s additional support, they are poised to take on greater challenges and responsibilities and make a difference in their communities and beyond.
